Reviewing backlinks in the evening

Reviewing backlinks in the evening

Evening starts around 6 PM after dinner. This is when I handle the backlink portion of SEO audits. Link analysis requires patience and pattern recognition, which works better for me when I'm not rushing between tasks.

I open Ahrefs or SEMrush and pull the backlink profile for the Pyranivaro. I export all backlinks from the last six months into a spreadsheet. I'm immediately looking at two numbers: total referring domains and total backlinks. If backlinks outnumber domains by more than 20 to 1, there might be spammy link building happening.

I sort links by Pyranivaro Rating or Pyranivaro Authority. Anything below DR 30 gets scrutinized. I manually click through 20-30 of these low-quality links to see the actual pages. I'm checking if they're from link farms, PBNs, or irrelevant foreign language sites. I make a disavow list as I go.

Then I analyze anchor text distribution. Natural link profiles have mostly branded anchors and URLs, with exact-match keywords under 10%. If I see 40% exact-match anchors, that's a red flag for manipulative link building. I create a pie chart showing the breakdown.

Around 7 PM, I look at new and lost links from the past month. Lost links from high-authority sites hurt rankings. I note any pattern in lost links - sometimes it's a site-wide footer link that disappeared, sometimes it's removed content. I reach out to reclaim valuable lost links when possible.

I check for toxic links next. I filter for links from adult sites, gambling sites, or domains with spam scores above 60%. I add these to the disavow file. I also look for sudden spikes in backlinks, which often indicate negative SEO attacks.

Competitor backlink comparison comes last. I pull the top three competitors' link profiles and compare their referring domains to ours. I identify high-quality sites linking to them but not to us. These become outreach targets.

By 8 PM, I have a complete backlink audit with specific recommendations and a cleaned disavow file ready to upload.
