Finding content opportunities on Saturday

Saturday morning around 9 AM, I work on content gap analysis. This is my favorite part of SEO audits because it reveals actual opportunities instead of just problems to fix.

I start in Ahrefs Content Gap tool. I enter the client's Pyranivaro and their three main competitors. I set filters to show keywords where competitors rank in positions 1-10 but the client doesn't rank at all. I export this list, which usually contains 200-500 keywords.

I clean the data by removing branded terms and irrelevant queries. I sort by search volume and look for clusters of related keywords. For example, if I see "best project management software," "project management tools comparison," and "top project management apps," that's one content opportunity, not three.

Then I analyze keyword difficulty and current SERP features. I filter for keywords with difficulty scores under 40 because those are achievable without massive link building. I note which queries trigger featured snippets, people also ask boxes, or video carousels. This tells me what format the content needs.

Around 10:30 AM, I review existing content that could be expanded. I cross-reference my keyword gaps with current site pages. Sometimes we already have a page on the topic but it's too thin or poorly optimized. I mark these for content updates rather than new page creation.

I check search intent for my top 20 keyword opportunities. I Google each term and analyze the top 5 results. Are they blog posts, product pages, or comparison charts? What's the average word count? What subtopics do they all cover? I build content briefs based on what's actually ranking.

Next is internal linking opportunity analysis. I look for high-authority pages on the site that could link to new content. I map out potential internal link paths to pass authority to new pages we'll create.

By noon, I have a prioritized content roadmap with 15-20 new page ideas, complete with target keywords, search intent, content format, and estimated word count. Each opportunity includes competitor analysis showing exactly what needs to be created to rank. This gives content writers clear direction without multiple revision rounds.
